Sigrún is a third-year PhD student in Social and Cultural Anthropology pursuing a joint international doctorate at the University of Iceland and the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Her PhD advisors are Miranda Lubbers and Kristin Loftsdóttir. She investigates how migrants from Spain residing in Iceland use social media to connect with locals and transnational relationships, and how these connections affect their sense of belonging. For this research, she has conducted ethnographic fieldwork and qualitative interviews with Spanish migrants in Iceland and Spain and analyzed their social networks. She holds a predoctoral grant from the University of Iceland.
