Nigel was a PhD researcher under cotutelle between the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology of the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the Department of Social and Political Sciences of the University of Milan (Behave Lab). He was involved in the ERC-funded project called "A network science approach to social cohesion in European societies" (PATCHWORK), in which we study the effects of individual acquaintanceships on social cohesion in a nation-scale population. In this interdisciplinary project, he complemented his fellow researchers with my expertise in agent-based modelling.

His research interests lie in collective social phenomena that emerge from the beliefs and behavior of individuals in the human population. In the PATCHWORK project, he was studying what makes a society have trust in its own members, and how this is related to different ways that individuals build trust in their social relationships. After having completed a bachelor's in Physics and Astronomy and a master's in Computational Science at the University of Amsterdam, he was a bridge between fields in our interdisciplinary team. Nigel decided to stop in 2025 for good reasons, and we miss him dearly.
