Karla Nahuelpan Sánchez is a postdoctoral researcher, who did her PhD in the COALESCE Lab, with a predoctoral grant from ANID (Chile). Miranda Lubbers was her thesis advisor. Dr. Nahuelpan Sánchez investigated the political transnationalism of organizations for indigenous activism in the Americas. She distinguished between various types of indigenous political transnationalism: migratory (when indigenous people migrate and create organizations in the country of residence that advocate either for indigenous migrants in the country of residence or for indigenous people in the country of origin), institutional (when organizations seek allies abroad, either with organizations of other indigenous peoples or with international organizations), and trans-state indigenous political activism (when the territory of an indigenous people is divided between multiple nation-states). She investigated how they function, how the COVID pandemic interrupted their functioning, and whether social media have been increasingly adopted during and after the pandemic. She defended her thesis cum laude and received the Award for Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation for her thesis.
Dr. Nahuelpan Sánchez is also a member of the editorial board of the journal Perifèria.
